Health and Safety Qualifications

 

As well as offering qualifications specific to the flooring industry, Floortrain also offer Health and Safety qualifications. With Health and Safety measures becoming increasingly more stringent, having a qualification

and knowledge in such an area is likely to make you very employable in the construction industry. As well as providing great up-skilling opportunities, knowledge of Health and Safety is very valuable for keeping safe at work, both for yourself and others around you.

 

L3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Practice

Overview

For candidates who wish to develop their skills and knowledge in the application of occupational health and safety good practice within the workplace.

It allows candidates to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression the health and safety sector.

To achieve the Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, learners must achieve a total of 31 credits. Learners will need to obtain a total of 23 credits from the mandatory units (301-305) and a minimum of 8 credits from the optional units.

Mandatory Units

  • Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety

  • Develop procedures to safely control work operations

  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations

  • Promote a culture of health and safety in the workplace

  • Conduct a health and safety risk assessment of the workplace

Optional Units

 

  • Investigate and evaluate health and safety incidents and complaints in the workplace

  • Make sure actions in the workplace aim to protect the environment

  • Review health and safety procedures in the workplace

  • Supervise the health, safety and welfare of a learner in the workplace

Entry Requirements and duration

Ideally working in a health and safety advisory capacity in the work place.

Typically 6 to 12 months depending on your time management.

L5 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice

Overview

This qualification is for learners who wish to develop their skills and knowledge in managing health and safety for the workplace. They will have an autonomous role in their organisation for managing health and safety policy and practice. They will report direct to or be part of the senior management team. They will recommend and implement changes relevant to their role. They will be aware of cost implications and budgetary control.

Candidates must achieve all units from the mandatory group. Candidates may choose to complete units from the elective group but are not a requirement to achieve the qualification.

Candidates must complete Unit 611 Professional development and ethics in health and safety management from the elective group to gain IOSH Graduate membership. Please note this assessment takes a minimum of 12 months to complete.

  • Develop and implement effective communication systems for health and safety information

  • Promote a positive health and safety culture

  • Develop and maintain individual and organisational competence in health and safety matters

  • Control health and safety risks

  • Develop and implement proactive monitoring systems for health and safety

  • Develop and implement reactive monitoring systems for health and safety

  • Develop and implement health and safety emergency response systems and procedures

  • Develop and implement health and safety review systems

  • Develop and implement a health and safety audit

  • Behavioural safety in the workplace

  • Develop and implement the health and safety policy

Optional Units

  • Influence improvements in health and safety practice

  • Develop, implement and review the organisations health and safety strategy

  • Contribute to health and safety legal actions

  • Manage contractors to ensure compliance with health and safety

  • Develop and implement the health and safety induction process

  • Professional development and ethics in health and safety management*

*This unit must be completed to gain IOSH graduate Membership recognition

Entry Requirements and duration

There are no formal entry requirements, however, we must ensure that you will have access to the evidence required.

 

Typically 12 to 18 months depending on your time management.

Benefits

No time away from work as all assessments are at your place of work. A recognised qualification upon completion of all mandatory units and the optional unit in professional development and ethics, you will be eligible for Graduate Membership of IOSH.
