Floortrain was formed in 2008 and are the UK’s largest Flooring training provider, with over 300 apprentices currently on program at our Doncaster and London training centres. Floortrain offers fully funded training and leads the way by preparing Flooring Apprentices for careers in the Flooring / Construction Industry.


Course Length

Between 15 – 24 months depending on previous levels of experience and Individual assessment / training plan

The Job Role

Involves learning how to:

  • Work safely in a construction environment

  • Develop estimating and communication skills

  • Learn how to prepare sub-floor surfaces

  • Learn how to set out flooring designs

  • Develop customer service skills

  • Learn how to install Carpets

  • Learn how to Install Vinyl flooring

About You

You will need:

  • To be Physically Fit – the role of a Floor Layer involves a good deal of manual work and some heavy lifting

  • A good standard of Maths and English – The role involves many calculations (measurements and quantities) and you will need to communicate confidently with customers and other trades

  • To be good at practical work – Training is hands on and intense throughout the training program.

  • To attend your nearest Floortrain training centre for off the job training and skills / knowledge development

  • To complete workbooks, coursework and e-learning tasks set by your Tutor during the course


Salary will be negotiable and will depend on the employer you are matched with. The national minimum wage for apprentices is £3.30 per hour, although we find that many employers do pay more.
